Highs and Lows

**PHOTO OVERLOAD**

We just returned from a super fun family reunion in California.

The highs of this trip were:
Kayaking with my 69 year old Grandma (she rocks!)

Getting PBR's (piggy back rides)

A million jumping photos
Shopping at SLO Swap Meet with Auntie V and finding lots of Shabby Chic treasures

Winning at Bunco

Lunching with my Point Loma roomies and their hubbs
plus a couple new baby additions to the group :)

Happy Hour at Embassy Suites
Endless hours of entertainment from MaMa and those kahluas and cream.

Jumping on the bed, of course

Shopping with the girls and getting a new coach purse

Oh yeah, Andrew got a tattoo.

Dinner with my bestie and friends

Farmer's Market

Meeting up with Texas friends at Pismo Beach. Small world!

Making sandcastles for Ethan to destroy :-)
Seeing my sister's play in Camria
This picture made us laugh hysterically. What do you think of my man legs?

Hitting 150,000 miles on the Camry. That was the only high for this sad car.
Seeing all of my dad's family and taking silly pictures at the beach.
Nice nip-slip, uncle Sieb!

swimming (near the shark tank - don't look nessie!) in las vegas

Anniversary dinner at Mario Batalli's restaurant in the Venetian.
Thank you mom and dad hoag!

Mid State Fair with family

Skipper's Beautiful Wedding!
San Diego with my furry little princess. And Maddie Bear too :)
And now for the LOWS which coincidentally all took place on the
1300 mile drive back from Vegas to San Antonio:

check engine light comes on. Andrew replaces coolant.

Monsoon hits in Arizone causing zero visibility. Eeek.

3 hours from home the grill fell off the front of the car. Here's Andrew recovering it off I-10.
I am currently undecided if we will ever make this treacherous drive across country again.
Maybe if there were more shopping stops along the way!!!

Back on the Ranch

We made it safely back to San Antone and had the best time ever in CA, AZ, NV, NM, and everywhere in between.  I've heard about people that make bucket lists and the like such as visiting all 50 states before they turn 50, and I always thought that would be really hard. But in the last year I've been to at least 20, so maybe I should hop on that bandwagon!  But then I would have to go to random states like the Dakotas and Idaho and I have zero desire to visit those places. So maybe just my TOP 30 States by the time I'm 30.

What the What?

So y'all remember from this post that we haven't really watched TV in the last few weeks and are completely out of the loop as far as world news goes. It's actually been kind of refreshing, though I do miss my Real (fake) Housewives.

Well, we just checked into our fancy suite (insert sarcasm here) at Motel 6 in Tucson and turned on the news to discover that Casey Anthony was found NOT GUILTY of murdering her 2 year old baby Caylee.  I find this news to be very disturbing based on my understanding of the evidence. I am definitely not the ultimate authority in determining who is guilty or what the heck "reasonable doubt" means or what kind of punishment is deserved for such a horrific crime. But I am disappointed and deeply saddened nonetheless because it appears that there is no justice for Caylee.

Everyone has lots to say about the verdict of this case (and I have some very strong feelings as well), but Romans 12:19 (NIV) comes to mind as I reflect on the outcome of the trial:
"Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord."

I have no idea how someone could murder an innocent child, but I find peace in the knowledge that Caylee's soul is with our heavenly Father and that He will judge whoever is guilty.

Hello Tucson

We made it safely to Tucson... 12 hours driving 860 miles
Maddie Bear was such a trooper!
I realize I barely took any pictures of the scenery
(for the record, west Texas is not particularly photogenic).
But my puppy is adorable

Maddie checking out the scenery

Maddie Dog

Look at her cute little reflection!

Getting cozy. She had the backseats all to herself.
But she still mostly sat on my lap the whole time!

She also liked sitting on the little console between us.
I think she wanted to drive too... they make those cute steering wheel attachments for babies' carseats.
They should make one for doggies too :)
** MILLION DOLLAR IDEA OF THE DAY** ~ Don't judge me, I haven't slept in days!

Leaving Texas

8 hours later... still leaving Texas.
Tomorrow we continue west on I-10. No stops 'til San Diego. Specifically this classy joint:
Hodad's Burgers in Ocean Beach. Hooray!!!
Hope to see you there!!!

Happy 4th of July

Maddie & Me in our matching 4th of July swimsuits
We got back late last night from a super fun day in Austin with our friends.
We started the day off early at 6 am and met up for breakfast tacos at Mama Margie's.

Then we headed north towards Lady Bird Lake in Austin for an awesome kayaking adventure. We did have a minor setback when some silly head let an extremely un-secured queen mattress fly off the back of her truck and into our car. Stupendous. Luckily the only damage was that Andrew's license plate got bent.  We were fine and after pulling over to survey the damage, we went on our merry way.

We arrived at the docks at 8 am and it's a good thing we did because we got first pick of the kayaks and we didn't have to wait at all.  The Lake was ours!

After kayaking, we went shopping at Tanger Outlets in San Marcos. Thanks guys!

We were famished after shopping at the outlets and had a delicious lunch at Salt Lick...
Best BBQ in Texas!!!

Alisha, Josh, Jeremy, and Andrew playing bocce ball while waiting for our table.

After lunch we headed back north to Downtown Austin

This is my favorite builidng downtown. It's the Frost Bank Building, but I call it the Texas Chrysler Building
Andrew's trying a new "natural" smile. We've perfected the cheeseball smile :)

We finished the evening with yummy cupcakes from Hey Cupcake!
We had such a fun time!!!  Let's do this every weekend!
