Hendricks' in Texas

Our best friends (Mr. and Mrs. Hendricks) from San Diego came out to visit last weekend. We stayed in Austin Saturday night hitting up the bars on 6th street and waited fruitlessly for the bats to come out at congress bridge. They never fail to disappoint :)  The rest of the weekend was spent in San Antonio where we drank our weight in shiner bock and lonestar beer. Here's a couple photos from a fun weekend with friends!

We Heart Hendricks' =)

I just got back from a super fun week in Cabo San Lucas
with my mom and a couple of her friends from work.
(Thank you Lorie for inviting us to stay with you at the lovely Villa Del Arco resort!!!)
We had a fabulous time and here’s the pictures to prove it:

Oh, and I highly recommend flying Aeromexico - free checked bag and complimentary drinks (alcoholic even!) and meals in flight :)

Switchfoot in San Antonio

Switchfoot is one of our all time favorite bands.
We never miss an opportunity to see them live because they rock!
Here's some pictures from the concert we went to last night...

Another awesome tour (remember, we already saw them at the beginning of it in Austin here)
They're playing in New Orleans tonight
and I almost want to make the 8 hour drive there to see them again.
Yes, they are that great!

I used to go to concerts all the time.
Especially when we lived in San Diego and there were great venues and musicians all the time.
San Antonio isn't really the music scene, luckily Austin is just up the road!

That reminds me, I have not forgotten about my New Year's Resolutions.
Cross off #16 {go to an awesome concert}

And Saturday morning I'm flying to Cabo San Lucas for a week long vacation with the ladies.
I've only been to Cabo once for a few hours on a cruise a couple years ago.
But on the way, I have a layover in Mexico City {hopefully a super fast layover}
Cross off # 5 {fly somewhere i've never been before}

I am so ready for a relaxing week at the beach :)

Maddie's Haircut Reveal

Mademoiselle CoCo Chanel Bear (Maddie Bear for short) is our precious puppy.
Ok, she's 2 1/2 years old, but she's tiny so she'll always be a puppy.

Recently Maddie's fluffy white hair has become matted.
Matted Maddie :)

This is a photo of her from a couple weeks ago, a happier time...
This was before her haircut, before we had to worry about such nuisances as sunscreen for dogs.

On Friday morning we dropped her off at Petsmart, which heretofore shall be referred to as Petdumb.
They informed us that Maddie would be receiving a "summer cut."
In my mind, a summer cut is like soft layers for summer.
Just for the record, MB can rock layers like no other :)

I was expecting a flowing white Farrah Fawcett style.
I was sadly mistaken.

Unfortunately a "summer cut" is code for super shaved.
And our Maddie Bear is now Maddie Bald.

This is going to be a bit of a rough ruff patch for Maddie.
And by rough I mean bald.

Luckily they do make wigs for dogs!

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day MaMa!!!

Thank you for bringing me into the world
and especially for not taking me out of it from the tantrum ages of 2 to 10 present day :)
and teaching me all about the importance of taking lots of pictures
and taking me on all your adventures
and being so much fun all the time

And fixing all my problems with a symphony bar and a shopping trip
And helping us move across the country
And taking care of our puppy
And always knowing what to do in every situation
"Always buy 2 of everything" - hasn't failed me yet!

Thank you for making me so so happy everyday!!!

Hope you have a Marvelous Mother's Day!

Can't wait to see you next weekend in Cabo!!!

Flashback Friday: Prom

It's hard to believe it was 10 years ago that we went to our senior prom.

Those clear plastic hooker heels were also my "something old" at our wedding 5 years later.

Prom was fun, but I think I'd like to do it again.
With a digital camera. With more "jump photos"

10 Year Reunion: A paradox

I went to prom.
I graduated Highschool.
I was 18.
I crashed my car. a lot.

10 years ago seems like forever ago and it seems like last weekend.
That is the paradox.

And now we have the momentous 10 year reunion approaching. {I mentioned it here.}
But I'm not sure I'm ready for a reunion.

Plus there's been unnecessary upheaval over who is organizing it and when it is even happening.
We probably aren't going just because of the logistics... we'll be in California July and August but the reunion is in September (at this point, but it changes everyday!) Leave it to the class of 2002 to procrastinate... our reunion just might end up being in 2013 :)

First of all, I don't know if we really need a reunion.  I still keep in pretty close contact with all of my friends from forever ago. {And I don't mean just checking in on facebook; real phone calls, real visits, real life. I have a reunion everytime I go home. Which is every chance I get!}

Second of all, I'm not ready for a reunion because I'm not where I thought I would be.
Call me crazy, but when I graduated high school I thought:

In 10 years...

I would be married.
I would have a house.
I would have kids.
I would have a lot more money in my savings account.
I wouldn't crash cars anymore (in my defense, I am a much better driver now but it's all relative)
I would live by the beach.
I would have a great job that allowed me to work from home.
bla bla bla

Yes, I realize now that I was crazy to think that.

Let's just see how right I was.

Right now...

I got married (after 7 years of dating. Yikes! That really put my 10 year plans in a time crunch)
I rent a house (after 8 years of living in teeny tiny apartments)
I have a dog. (no kids)
I have no savings. (hooray for college and cute shoes)
I still am a lousy driver. (but haven't had a car accident since 2001. woo hoo!)
I live in Texas, nowhere near the beach. San Antonio is, in fact, the opposite of a beach town.
I teach 6th grade. unless I homeschool my imaginary children, I will not be working from home.

Sometimes life doesn't work out exactly like you plan.
Sometimes life doesn't work out anything at all like you plan.

Was I stupid to think all those things?

Was my time frame unrealistic?
I don't know.

Am I right where I'm supposed to be?

10 years post graduation and not a lot has changed.

That can be a reason to get bummed out, or it can be a reason to dig up old photos and giggle at the silly kids we once were and the silly kids we still are. (see prom pics in next post...)

The fact of the matter is, I just don't feel old enough to be going to any reunion!
Get back to me in another 10 years :)

I Miss Maui

It is hot in Texas.
Which got me thinking.
I want to go to the beach.
But not just any old beach.
The beautiful beaches in Maui.

I wish I could just hop in my time machine and go back!
These photos will have to do for now...

We happened to be there at Halloween and heard rumors that Lahaina was the BEST place in the world to be for Halloween. The rumors were TRUE!!!
 All Karaoke ALL THE TIME!!!
The Kate + 8 lady was hilarious! Chucking all those baby dolls into the audience while belting out Proud Mary. We made a lot of funny friends.  Best Night EVER!!!

Thank you so so so much to the Womack family for inviting me on this once in a lifetime vacation!

2 more weeks until Cabo San Lucas!
I just might live for vacations.
But I'm ok with that :)
