Dear 2012,

Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya.

Bring it on 2013!!!

Merry Christmas to all

Merry Christmas! Here's what we've been up to the last few days...

Bonus points to whoever noticed Brian's indecent exposure in the top photo (upper right corner)
He refuses to comply with photo procedures. It is what it is.

It isn't Christmas without a gazillion sugar cookies
{it took 7 hours to bake and frost these bad boys and probably won't be happening again anytime soon. I think I developed carpal tunnel syndrome in the process, but it was totally worth it.}
Christmas at our parents' houses
Lots of dogs at my mom and dad's!

I got Andrew a nose hair trimmer... for obvious reasons.  And his mom got us these hilarious gifts (bic pens for her and a banana slicer) which initially seem somewhat practical but are an inside joke after reading the hilarious product reviews on amazon first discovered by Erika here.
Funniest thing ever!

Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas!!!

Life is a highway...

Today we embarked on our 1500 mile drive home to California for Christmas. I would like to credit this nifty ipod car radio adapter for making our 13 hours {boo ya google maps... you said it would take us 15!} in the car today a little more fun in a non-stop singing at the top of our lungs kind of way. I will never go back to switching out cds every 45 minutes again! It's the simple things :)

Here we are: 3 cranky, cramped, happy campers!
600 more miles to go, but today our journey ends here in lovely tolerable Phoenix, Arizona.

Happy Birthdays

December is a good month to be born... in our family anyway. Today is my dad's 49th Birthday and tomorrow is my sister, Melissa's 20th Birthday. Here they are looking like their usual fabulous selves in this year's Christmas picture:

And Maddie's 3rd Birthday is coming up on the 29th so I "fixed" the photo to include her too.

Prayers for Newtown

The tragic events of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Friday are still heavy on my heart. I am aching for the families that are suddenly and forever left incomplete. What an unfathomable loss. As a substitute teacher being surrounded by young students everday for the last 5 years, this tragedy feels a little too close to home. Just the thought that something like this can happen is terrifying.

What do you do when this happens?

Sure there are drills and protocol, but when the bullets are flying all that remains is instinct. There were many heroes that day whose instinct was to give the ultimate sacrifice to protect the defenseless. My love, support, and prayers go to their families right now. The selfless actions of those individuals gives me hope that there is still good in the world. Sometimes the bad just gets to be too much. As I am watching the coverage of the funerals for these 20 babies, the ticker across the news screen flashes another shooting this weekend at a mall in California I used to shop at and a shooting at a local movie theatre here in San Antonio last night. What is going on?

I am not about to get all political because we have facebook for that, but surely something has to change here.

All day today I had sweet, scared sixth graders asking me how this could happen and who could do something so terrible?

I don't know what to say.
The whole thing just makes me sad.

All things Christmas

Christmas parties, Christmas decorations, Christmas ornaments, Christmas wish-lists, Christmas pictures...  All things Christmas are happening now and I LOVE IT!!!

Let's start with the parties:
We attended 2 Christmas parties on Saturday.

Friends, colleagues, faculty, and tasty treats were the highlights of this night.
Oh and I scored the highly coveted home-made Christmas ornament! (see photos below)

There were actually a lot of people at the party, I just only snapped a few pics.
Moving on to my favorite part about Christmas, you know besides the birth of our Lord and Savior :)
The decorations!!!

In all honesty my house has been decorated for Christmas since the day after Halloween, but I keep forgetting to post pictures so here they finally are:
We totally slacked on outside decorations so no fun Christmas light pictures this year :(

And a few new ornaments...

So this year the Christmas gift theme is "Something you want, something you need, something to wear, and something to read." I like it! And I've seen it everywhere, first here at the tiny twig and then at Something Beautiful with a cute template from E myself and I. So I figured I'd better hop on board and create my own little list as well.

{And I decided to let Hoagie Bear and Maddie in on the fun too.}

And lastly, a Christmas picture...
Only 2 weeks 'til Christmas!!!

Tiffany in Texas

Tiffany {Tiffers as we lovingly refer to her} is my best friend from college and was my roomate for 2 years at PLNU. She is a Labor and Delivery nurse, which is going to come in super handy in 4 months when she has her first baby. YAY!

Here we are a couple of 6 years ago...

Tiffers came to visit us this weekend and we had tons of fun!

*Not pictured: Sunday we went to church, did a little lot more shopping, went for a walk and saw lots of deer, baked chocolate chip cookies, ate ice cream, and watched Christmas movies.
Thank you for coming to visit us, Tiffers! Can't wait to meet your baby girl in April and teach her all about the finer things in life like chocolate, rhinestones, and Ross Dress for Less :)
