This & That

This  Summer has come to an end and that makes us sad,
but we did manage to get one last pool day in =)

It's been a little quiet around here as our fabulous friends have returned home
and we're getting back into school mode and adjusting to new schedules.
It seems like this  will be my 5th year of subbing, even though I really wanted to teach full time.
But that is ok because I really enjoy the flexibility and fun of whenever-i-want days off.
And it's still super early in the semester, so we'll see.
No complaints here!

This  is also Andrew's 3rd and final year at UTSA. That means {we're hoping}
by next May he will be A.B.D. all but disertation  And we can move home to California!

I may or may not already be researching apartments...

This  is the complex we're interested in, and even though it's in San Diego,
that rent for that little space makes me a little more thankful we're in Texas right now.
God Bless Texas and it's flat, uninteresting, non-ocean view, cheap land!

I am also thankful that tomorrow is September and Fall is coming because
this hot weather and that crazy humidity have got to go.
Bring on boot weather!!!

No August, with your relentless heat and endless car repairs, I am not sad to see you go.

Did I mention I LOVE boots?!
Looking forward to shopping my way through this 3-day weekend
and Andrew is not excited about that!

Jews in Texas

Let me start off by first letting you know that this is NOT a post about Jewish cowboys.
It's much better!
My best friend {and Maid of Honor} Ashley Jew and her parents and grandma are visiting San Antonio this week! This is also the last week of Summer vacation so their timing is perfect.

Here's what we've been up to...

Eating!!!  Texas BBQ and Tex-Mex mostly
 Chillin' at the pool

We convinced the Jew Family that life in San Antonio can be pretty fabulous
when we toured the fancy model homes in this exclusive neighborhood.
Ashley and I made ourselves right at home!

As always, there was jumping!

And a fun day in Austin
They have only been here a couple days and we are having so much fun!
I love it when the Jews come to town... I just love saying "the Jews are here!"
It makes it seem like something miraculous could happen =)

Well if you didn't guess by the title, we are back in San Antonio.
Life is back to normal. No more exciting adventures in the Alaskan wilderness, no more morning walks on the beach, no more in-n-out burger, no more getting chased by bears.
Postpartum Vacation depression has officially set in.

Meeting up with grizzlies was exhilarating to say the least!  Just looking back over the photos gives me heart palpitations.
It's all good, it's great cardio. Which is awesome because I've given up exercise for the hot summer months ever.

Now it's the final week of Summer vacation and it is like a Dr. Seuss tragedy up in here.

It's too hot too go out, the sun is aflame, so we sit in the house and think yeah, this is lame.
All we can do is to sit, sit, sit, sit, and eat ice cream until our face breaks out in zits.
I sit here with Maddie, we sit here we two and we think how we wish shows on netflix were new.

That about sums it up.

And now for confession time:

This morning when I should have been unloading the dishwasher, folding laundry, weeding the yard, etc doing something productive, I instead wasted time picking out first week of school outfits.
The one on the right is a suit for just in case I get an interview for a teaching position (I would normally wear tights with it or maybe even pants, but it's 104* so I skipped them today).

I was actually very productive last week before the post-vacation blues set in
and updated my resume and teaching applications.
No news yet, so maybe I should be creating "laying around the house in sweats" ensembles.

For the rest of the afternoon I gathered up a bunch of old home decorating magazines and
cut out clippings for inspiration.

That was fun until I realized I have champagne taste and a miller lite budget.

C'est la vie!

Our annual Summer family reunion was in Anchorage, Alaska and it was absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful! Thank you so much to Uncle Jeff, Uncle Randy, and Aunt Wendy for hosting such a once in a lifetime event. We had the best time ever and here are 31,427 a few photos to prove it!

My favorite thing about Alaska in July - it stays light 21 hours a day!
(Unfortunately the stores don't stay open any later)
Reindeer sausage pizza - so good! (Don't tell Rudolph!)

 12:30 AM... love the "sunset"
We caravaned out - we were in the RV in the middle

4 brothers   Nice jump, Uncle Randy!

 Everyday we were shufflin'
I am decidedly team Katie Holmes after conducting mass magazine loads of research.
 At the campsite

We finally got our picture with a moose!!!
Vacation Alaska was a SUCCESS!!!
 Alaska is absolutely gorgeous!!!
Love you and miss you all!!!

But hey, we might actually be heading back to Alaska sooner than we thought because
we took a later flight home and received Alaska Airlines ticket vouchers =)
